Guide Huw Edwards
Since April 2006, Edwards has offered the newly established BBC News at Five on the 24-hour BBC News channel. On 29 April 2011 he presented the BBC coverage of the Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The coverage was watched by 20 million viewers at peak within the United Kingdom and the group gained a BAFTA Award for Best Coverage of a Live Event. In June 2012 he introduced the BBC protection of the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. In December 2013 he led the primary few hours of BBC News protection of the dying of Nelson Mandela on BBC One, BBC News Channel and BBC World News. In 2014 Edwards introduced BBC Local Elections taking over protection from David Dimbleby.
He led the BBC commentary group at the opening and shutting ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics and 2014 Commonwealth Games. He has introduced several election specials, including protection of the 2007 National Assembly for Wales election for BBC Wales and also the BBC protection of the United States elections, 2008 outcomes and the inauguration of Barack Obama. He was previously Chief Political Correspondent for BBC News, and spent greater than 14 years reporting politics from Westminster throughout a range of BBC programmes. Edwards presented the BBC’s coverage of main national events, together with the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

I was totally mesmerized with this man with a white stick and even though he was not making any sounds, he was controlling the sounds and music. This week a few of our colleagues at BBC News are relating their own families’ experiences in contributing to the individuals’s war effort. We begin with Huw Edwards whose grandfather John Daniel Edwards was a service provider seaman, risking his life with thousands of others serving in the Atlantic Convoys.
He had also carried out opera and orchestras all through Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He has been invited to talk at the American Symphony Orchestra League convention in Boston and assisted with the organisation’s “Meet for the Millennium” project. Edwards has been conducting since age seventeen when he turned music director of the Maidstone Opera Company in England, a position he held for six years. Edwards attended the University of Surrey, the place he carried out the faculty orchestra together with an ensemble that he fashioned himself. He won a conducting competition in 1988 which sent him to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas at twenty-three years old.
Portland Youth Philharmonic
The 1998–1999 season included performances in Salem, Newberg, Welches, St. Helens, and Milwaukie and Longview, Washington along with the common subscription series. On 10 February 1999 the orchestra opened a Portland Trail Blazers recreation on the Rose Garden performing The Star-Spangled Banner. Prior to joining the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Edwards had written extensively about music.
