Relatively unknown, Elf Like are a groove-based electronic duo originally from Canberra, but at the moment one of them lives in Melbourne and the other is still in Canberra!

They have a 7-track CD out called "When Everything's Gone Pearshaped" and it's great.

I must admit I am a fan of power-pop and guitars, but I also enjoy electronic stuff when it is done really well, like these guys. The CD is really well produced but the thing that makes it stand out in my eyes is singer Alanna's beautiful, soulful voice.

Everything but the Girl stand out as an influence, as well as Lamb, Faithless, etc.

My favourite track is probably the first (and last)one, "Autumn Sun", a cruisey tune which has you humming along but I also really like "Liberty" with the cool synth sounds that are reminicent of Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. Hey, I love that era in music!

Check them out when they start to play again. They should be doing some shows around Melbourne in the not too distant future.

In the meantime they have a website at
