Melbourne singer-songwriter-guitarist John Carroll has a blues-inspired CD out called Stationville.
This CD was recorded live in the studio and is basically just vocals and guitar, showcasing John's talent as a guitarist in a bluesy, rootsy, American slide guitar kinda way.
I have recieved a lot of CDs in this style of music lately. Didn't know there was that much of this style out there. Though not a huge fan I can appreciate it when done well.
John also has a pretty decent voice and the slide guitar is very good. The CD also features instrumentals in 'Bellarine Highway.'
John has written all the tracks on this CD showing a talent in songwriting though tracks like 'Moonlight on the Bayou' are slightly derivative but with blues-type stuff there is only that much you can do before it sounds similar to other songs.
Closing track 'Puffing Billy' has some great guitar work speeding up and slowing down throughout like a train does.
You can catch John playing at this years Frankston International Guitar Festival in March.
