Sitting on the brink of release with their new EP see’s an interview compiled with Dave (Star KC) of Kid Courageous talking to me about everything, well, courageous! Kid Courageous
Article By Cindy James on Feb 25, 2003

Cindy:

So what’s the current line-up of Kid Courageous and who plays what in the band?

STAR, KC:

Well, I (Dave) play Bass, Mick is Vox and Piano, Pat is lead guitar, Huw is guitar and back ups, Lau on drums and our mate Rob does some scratching and stuff

Cindy:

Rad so you guys have a DJ incorporated into the band? That's something different!

STAR, KC:

Yeah he was just gonna record on 1 song then we loved it and he ended up doing 3 of the 5 on the ep. Live he’ll be doing as many shows as possible but he also has a hip hop band called the blend who takes 1st priority but we can get by with out

Cindy:

hahah yeah sounds awesome! Were you all in a high school band together or did the band form elsewhere?

STAR, KC:

Um huw lau and me went to school together and mick was a mate from around and pat we got him from an advert in drum media, he used to be in stranded.

Cindy:

So where's the band based?

STAR, KC:

Sydney, NSW, around the Sutherland shire – where we jam, that’s kinda our centre meeting point

Cindy:

Ok cool, so how would you describe your experiences breaking into the cities' scene, do you find much competition or has it all been fairly easy?

STAR, KC:

Um that’s tough lol, we have mostly done local shows with mates bands so we don't really consider it competition, but we’ve had a fairly good response cause no one else is really doing our style.

Cindy:

How long ago did the band form? You guys seem to be the new kids on the scene yeah?

STAR, KC:

Yeah, well we started about 8 months ago, but 2 totally different guitarists who didn’t really fit the plot, but we are stoked now with the line-up we now have.

Cindy:

Cool, How did the band name come about?

STAR, KC:

Um, I always loved the word courage and I wanted that in a name, so then it was just a matter of going through things until we found something that sounded right…

Cindy:

Sweet, I think it gives the band an adventurous appearance heheheh... with so many diverse instruments in your band, how would you describe your sound?

STAR, KC:

Yeah, we were looking for something kinda original, I guess its pop punk with piano and scratching but our new stuff is heading kinda emo with a bit of scream-core, kinda a mix of something corporate and finch

Cindy:

No Way!! Two of my favourite bands!!!! Awesome!

What would your greatest achievement as a band to-date be?

STAR, KC:

We came 2nd in both the New South Wales uni band comp and the skate plus band comp...this year maybe 1st (1st prize pays so much better)

Cindy:

Rad! That's pretty cool for a band that's been around for such a short time!!! What would some of the musical influences behind Kid Courageous consist of?

STAR, KC:

Well when we started we were like new found glory, Blink 182, Dynamite boy but now alot more emo like Thursday, Further seems forever, and oh the starting line and mest I love those guys

Cindy:

Sweet, does KC have any previous releases we can track down?

STAR, KC:

Nar, we do have an EP set for release in around eight weeks

Cindy:

Cool, can you tell us a bit about the new EP?

STAR, KC:

Yeah, it’s called Don't Wait Up! Due for release in about 2 months, its got 5 songs, we recorded at milkbar with Greg Stace, who’s previously worked with bands like ODS, Just For Now, Best Kept Secret. We also have Sammy Cannis who is a huge time producer doing the mix for us. He’s also worked with artists like Ronan Keating, Alex Lloyd and the Screaming Jets so we are stoked.

Cindy:

Wow! You guys have got some pretty big industry go-ers working on it; I can't wait to have a listen! What 3 bands have KC played with in the past?

STAR, KC:

Yeah it sounds amazing but is sending us broke haha. We’ve played with Seraphs Coal, Silent*Corperation and Best Kept Secret who are good mates of ours.

Cindy:

Yeah bks rock!

STAR, KC:

Yeah we all love them

STAR, KC:

Hey Huw and Pat are here and they will answer a few questions while I shower…

Cindy:

Sweeeet, Hey guys how are you going?

STAR, KC:

Hey it’s all good what's up

Cindy:

Just doin a bit of an interview, you know how it is, hahahah, would you care to sit in the hot seat?

STAR, KC:

For sure, let’s do this

Cindy:

Cool, we'll keep the ball rolling from where Dave and I left off...

STAR, KC:

Good Charlotte, NOFX, Less than Jake, Something Corporate, Blink 182, Dashboard Confessionals, Starting Line and New Found Glory oh and of course Kid Courageous.

Cindy says:

And what was the last gig you guys went to?

STAR, KC:

Best Kept Secret at the Bat and Ball

Cindy:

Their launch? Awesome, I can't wait to check them out w/ their new material, How about the last CD you brought?

STAR, KC:

Huw's was Finch- What it is to burn.

Cindy:

Is there a website we can catch K.C on?

STAR, KC:

Cindy:
