I recently 'caught up with Brisbane's

The Foster Portfolio

Cindy: Hey Josh, how you going?

Josh : just super thankyou.

Cindy: So what's the current line-up of "The Foster Portfolio" and where are you guys from?

Josh: We’re a 4 piece with my good self on bass, Remy on guitar and vocals, John on guitar and Mitchell takes care of the drums. We all partake in a bit of cathartic screaming also. Were based in the greater areas of Brisbane.

Cindy: When & how did you guys come about?

Josh: The marvellous tool that is the Internet...I met Remy through a friend and used to converse with him while he was still overseas on a long working holiday. We got to talking and decided we should get something happening one day. So upon his return to Australia, Remy rounded up John and Mitchell and there it is. But we’ve been together for 3 months, just fooling around in each others bedrooms (in a musical sense) since about Oct 2001.

Cindy: easy done! What style /genre would you class yourselves?

Josh: erghhh I was dreading when this question was going to pop up... I guess you could call it slow-core. Clean guitars, nice melodies and a bit of experimentation thrown in for good measure. If you want to be lazy, just call it EMO (think mineral or apple-seed cast and you’re getting warm).

Cindy: And what would your greatest achievement as a band be?

Josh: Hahaha well... the amount of shows we’ve played you can count on one hand, as we're a very new band. However I’d say the highlight would definitely be playing our first show with “St Albans' Kids” from Adelaide. It’s just a pity it had to be on a boat cruise, as we hate boats.

Cindy: What are some of the musical influences behind “the foster portfolio” ?

Josh: mineral/mogwai/apple-seed; cast/moneen and some dreamy 'Further Seems Forever' type vocals over the top

Cindy: yay for Further Seems Forever, I love them! Do you guys have any previous releases or future recording plans in sight?

Josh: Remy (guitar & vox) has a solo project called "intimate with Emily" and he’s got an E.P and a new one coming out in the next few weeks...but the foster portfolio haven’t recorded yet. I for one am very keen to get these songs documented.

Cindy: Have you played in any bands previously?

Josh: in chronological order....Kickstart a pop punk band that worked its way into a more rockier band before it blew up, and now I'm currently in in RUIN (a hardcore band) and foster portfolio.

Cindy: What 3 bands have you played with in the past?

Josh: ummm 3 favourite bands we've played with? St Albans Kids, (Adelaide), Theory of Flight and Asherah (two of Brisbane’s finest!).

Cindy: What 3 bands would you like to play with in the future?

Josh: Ultimate line-up? I mean its not gonna happen but a show where “Mineral Theory of Flight” and “Poison the Well” all played together would be amazing. Opening for that would be mad....

Cindy: Last gig you went to?

Josh: last night we played with OK to Cry...they rock very hard

Cindy: awesome so a local Brissy band?

Josh: yep, it'd been a while since I've seen them, I forgot their yumminess.

Cindy: hahah how about the last C.D you bought?

Josh: Eighteen Visions – Until the Ink Runs Out

Cindy: O.K, on stage in front of 5,000 people, what cover song are you most likely to play?

Josh: “Slice Paper Wrists” by Poison the Well... I’ve seen footage of that and boy was it chaotic.

Cindy: And where do you see yourself in six months time?

Josh: Tighter, louder and more jaded.

Cindy: O.K well good luck and I hope it all goes well for you! Do have you got any words to sum up “The Foster Portfolio”?

Josh: bring some tissues...hahaha

Cindy: ahhh so you're the 'teary emo-core' sound! Can't wait to see you live!

thanx heaps for your time!
